Jasia Akhtar becomes first Kashmiri female cricketer to get India camp call

Jasia Akhtar, the top woman cricketer of Kashmir who plays for Punjab in national arena, on Sunday became first ever Kashmiri female cricketer to be selected for the Indian national women cricket camp scheduled to be held in Bangalore from September 18.
Jasia, who is in Punjab at present, was informed about her selection by the selectors.

During the camp all the shortlisted cricketers from all over country would be trained and groomed and then the selected players will be divided into various teams before getting final Team India call-up.
Jasia hails from Shopian district of Kashmir and was spotted for the India camp by the selectors during her stint in high performance coaching camp at Just Cricket Academy Bangalore from June 10 to 15.
She recently lead LIC Chandigarh side to Queens India Cup title triumph against Sri Lankan Airforce side at New Delhi. The event was organized by Sehwag Cricket Academy.

Jasia is now second cricketer from J&K after Roopali Slathia of Jammu to be selected for the National camp
Coach Abida hailed the selection and hoped that she will make it to national team.
“It is proud moment for all of us who are associated with women cricket in J&K. I hope that she does well in the camp and get place in national team,” said Abida.
Jammu based woman cricketer turned Coach Roopali Slathia also has hailed Jasia for the selection and said it shows that J&K has got the talent.
“I am happy to learn that after me Jasia has become second player from J&K to get national camp call. It is not a small achievement and being part of the camp as player and coach I know what it means,” Roopali said.
“She has got the talent and ability to achieve big by getting selected for national team. To get name in India camp is first step and I am sure that she can make it into the team as well. She has all the talent and ability to do that”.
